Farewell From Staten Island Day Camp Thank You
For All the Great Years!

We are sorry to inform you that after forty wonderful years of serving the Staten Island Community, Staten Island Day Camp has no other option but to close our doors from this day forward. Fortunately, we have come to an agreement with Richmond County Day Camp and Fun Station Day Camp, they are both willing to accommodate our current campers and anyone that is referred to them by Staten Island Day Camp. Mike Halpern was the founder of Staten Island Day Camp and lived to see the camp reach its fortieth successful year. He has left a lasting impact on all the campers that he loved and cherished. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your kind and sincere words and so sorry that it all had to come to an end.

God Bless,

Dear Parents and Campers

It saddens me to inform you that Staten Island Day Camp, like many other small New York businesses, will close our doors immediately and permanently. This is due to the pandemic and the uncertainty of The College of Staten Island re-opening and remaining open for the summer in full operation. Staten Island Day Camp was successful for over forty years due to the leadership and expertise of our founder and owner Mike Halpern.
It is devastating to have to come to this conclusion. I have been exploring all possibilities on how to keep Staten Island Day Camp open but unfortunately, I have no other choice.

Most of you have been with us for many years and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your loyalty and support. This week, I have negotiated an agreement with Richmond County Day Camp to accept your Staten Island Day Camp deposit and your payments, dollar for dollar. This would assure your child’s spot in their camp for 2021.

Fortunately, RC Day Camp, opened successfully in 2020, following the required guidelines, and had a safe & healthy summer. They have been enrolling for the upcoming, 2021 summer for several months. Since there will be an additional 400 campers looking for a camp this year, it would be to your benefit to let me know as soon as possible, so I can transfer your deposits to Richmond County Day Camp in a timely manner.

Richmond County Day Camp has agreed to offer employment to many of our counselors which will make the transition much easier for your child. One of the reasons I chose Richmond County Day Camp is because of their excellent reputation and high standards and programs, which are aligned closely with SIDC. They can accommodate most of our campers, which means that your child will be able to continue the friendships and safe, memorable summers they enjoyed at Staten Island Day Camp.

Staten Island Day Camp also arranged with Fun Station Day Camp to find a home for our SIDC families and staff.  This may work for those families on the Mid Island/North Shore areas that prefer a camp closer to home.  I was very impressed with the program that Fun Station runs given the fact that they have grown so much over the past 10 years.  They also provide door to door transportation, free daily catered lunch, and free extended hours from 7am to 6pm.

Please visit their website at for special registration for SIDC families.

Once again, I am so sorry it had to end this way, and I want to thank you for your many years of patronage. If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at please leave your name, your child’s name if different, and your phone number.
